Dental implants can be used to provide support for the replacement of one tooth or all of an individual's teeth. After years of research and clinical trials, we can now provide this option. Implant supported teeth can be made attractive, stable, and comfortable for almost any patient. Best of all, they look and feel like your natural teeth.
With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, Dr. Cooper-Newland can evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth and predict if there are present or may be future problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Because Dr. Cooper-Newland has the training, license and experience to provide various types of anesthesia for patients, your comfort during any extraction procedure will be maintained.
We now have the ability to grow jaw bone where needed. This not only gives us the opportunity to place dental implants successfully on most jaws, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance to your jaw-line and mouth. We can perform a variety of bone grafting procedures in our office.
The inside of the mouth is normally lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and coral pink in color. Any alteration in this appearance could be a warning sign for a pathological process. The most serious of these is oral cancer. The following can be signs at the beginning of a pathologic process or cancerous growth:
These changes can be detected on the lips, cheeks, palate, and gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, face and/or neck. Pain does not always occur with pathology, and curiously, is not often associated with oral cancer. However, any patient with facial and/or oral pain without an obvious cause or reason may also be at risk for oral cancer.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is frequently confronted with dentoalveolar surgical problems in childhood, such as impacted teeth, craniofacial deformities, trauma and pathology. These situations require a more complex level of evaluation and management. Advanced radiology imaging techniques, which Dr. Cooper offers in her practice, play an important role in helping surgeons care for these patients. Pediatric Oral Surgery is one of Dr. Cooper-Newland's main focuses in her practice.
